Question 1

How does the platform verify official Sri Lankan gazetted holidays?

Accepted Answer

Every statutory holiday is certified against the Department of Government Information (DGI) and Extraordinary Gazettes issued under the Holidays Act No. 29 of 1971, with astronomical Poya dates verified through the Buddhist Affairs Council.

Question 2

What is the difference between Public, Bank, and Mercantile holidays in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Under Sri Lankan law: Public Holidays apply to government departments and schools; Bank Holidays govern licensed commercial banks and CBSL inter-bank RTGS/CEFT clearing; and Mercantile Holidays are mandatory paid holidays for private sector employees governed by the Wages Board.

Question 3

How does the Asia/Colombo (+05:30) midnight rollover eliminate timezone drift?

Accepted Answer

Sri Lanka operates strictly on UTC+05:30 with zero Daylight Saving Time (DST). Edge nodes calculate calendar date transitions at exactly 00:00:00 Asia/Colombo local time, ensuring international cloud platforms trigger banners and buffer holds at exact Sri Lankan midnight.

Question 4

How do WooCommerce and Shopify plugins handle delivery buffer dates?

Accepted Answer

When a customer places an order on or preceding a gazetted mercantile holiday or bank settlement pause, the plugin automatically adds configurable delivery buffer days (+1, +2, or +3 days) to estimated dispatch dates and displays a localized notice banner on checkout.

Question 5

How do CBSL bank clearing schedules affect LankaPay and online payment gateways?

Accepted Answer

On statutory Bank Holidays, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) suspends automated RTGS and LankaPay batch settlement cycles. The API flags 'cbsl_clearing_paused: true', allowing fintech and e-commerce apps to inform users of delayed clearance.

Question 6

How does trilingual localization work across English, Sinhala, and Tamil?

Accepted Answer

Every holiday in the database contains official Unicode translations for English (en), Sinhala (සිංහල), and Tamil (தமிழ்), including titles, historical background, short summaries, and cultural greetings.
